ixie Technical College is delighted to announce the new Center For Instructional Excellence. This center is an open resource for instructors to collaborate on campus and elevate their teaching practices in a friendly, academic environment.

The goal is to provide a place of learning and support so that instructors have the tools they need to be effective in the classroom and lab. The resources available will help instructors delve deeper into their own instructional practice to help students make stronger connections and have an easier time learning difficult concepts.

“In the past, we’ve provided instructors with professional development training during monthly luncheons,” said Sheila Farrell, who will be directing the Center. “But we found our instructors needed a more open environment so that we could help them during their availability. This Center will allow us to connect with every instructor more regularly, leading to improved instruction for students.”

This new center will provide six primary services: PLC participation, curriculum reviews, departmental instructor training, classroom observations, student work sample reviews, and reviews of student course evaluations.

A PLC, or Professional Learning Community, is helpful for ongoing instructional training. They are teams of instructors from different departments that share best practices, problem solve together, listen, and give feedback on ways to improve teaching practices.

“While we are excited about the incredible growth we are experiencing, we cannot forget about quality,” said Jordan Rushton, Interim President, Dixie Technical College. “The new Center for Instructional Excellence is the institution’s latest commitment to quality. We want to make sure every one of our instructors has the support they need and the tools to bring education to life inside our classrooms and labs.”

Our mission at Dixie Tech is to train students to master essential skills they can take directly to the workforce. Ensuring students are receiving the best instruction possible is our top priority, and that comes from helping our faculty be the best instructors possible.
