Subaru-U Training prepares Dixie Tech Students for the Workforce
Dixie Tech is the only College in Southern Utah that offers Subaru-U training.

A
t Dixie Technical College, the programs and offerings are continually evolving to fit with the ever-changing needs of the workforce and industry. One of the newest examples of this is the launch of Subaru-U training for our Automotive Technology students.
In partnership with Findlay Subaru, the Auto tech program has been working to incorporate Subaru-specific training into the curriculum through a program called Subaru-U. This gives students the ability to finish the training required of any Subaru Technician before they enter the workforce. Without the incorporation of the training, they would have to take an online course before starting a new job.
Subaru-U works to create partnerships between Subaru of America, local retailers, and high performing institutions as they collaborate to integrate Subaru’s web-based training into existing curriculum. Dixie Tech Instructor Bill Vair has worked with Subaru-U in the past and is excited to add the training to the many certifications that are offered at Dixie Tech.
“It helps our students’ knowledge and skills base as well as makes them very desirable to Subaru dealerships,” Vair said. “When Subaru-U graduates work at a Subaru dealer, they don’t need to take time off from work to complete the required online training and that makes their employer very happy.”

The training is rolling out in stages, Vair said. Currently, students who choose to work towards Subaru certification do so through web-based training. Over time the instructors are incorporating the Subaru-U training into the curriculum so each student will have the opportunity to receive their certifications from hands-on experience in the classroom.
Now that they’ve started working together, Dixie Tech is the only College in Southern Utah that offers Subaru-U training.
The faculty and staff at Dixie Tech take pride in fostering relationships throughout the community and working with industry partners to provide students with training that leads to success in the workplace. Students in the Automotive Technology Program have had the opportunity to work with local businesses for years and are excited to add Findlay Subaru to the list of dealerships that they can count on.
President Jordan Rushton finds great value in creating these partnerships because he said it benefits the quality of training as well as the student’s experience.
“We are very grateful for our industry partners and see this new partnership with Subaru as a significant benefit to our students and the institution,” Rushton said. “These industry partnerships bring quality and relevance to our training and curriculum. This is a great day for Dixie Technical College.”
Dixie Tech offers students a pathway to learn current technologies and develop skills that will help them obtain a career in the automotive industry. The hands-on experience gained through the program prepares students to earn certifications that allow them to work on a variety of vehicles.
