The Commercial Driver’s License program provides professional driver training with both classroom and in-vehicle training time. Students complete a range of driver competencies and become safe, comfortable, confident, law-abiding drivers. Students will be prepared to take the Utah State Driving Exam for the Class A Truck/Trailer and Utah State Preventative Maintenance of tractor and trailer.
Start, clutch, engine, axles, steering, and braking.
Straight-line off-set, parallel, and alley back.
The technique of double-clutching and floating gears.
Unhooking and proper hook-up.
Employer-Employee, Customer Relations, and Dispatch Relations.
Actual driving situations, adverse conditions, and trip planning.
Would rather be on the road instead of behind a computer.
Can internalize and respect numerous protocols and procedures.
Savor the alone time that comes with driving open roads.
They receive practical test-driving experience behind the wheel.
The smaller classroom sizes foster real relationship building between instructors and classmates.
They graduate from the program prepared to take any state’s CDL certification exams.

Heber Holm attended BYU and finished his degree at what was then known as Dixie College. He owned and operated a construction company for 25 years prior to becoming co-owner and superintendent of HD Trucking. Heber was also a field manager for Trade Star LLC, which provides oil field trucking and logistics services. Heber joined the faculty at Dixie Tech in 2019.
