What You Will Learn In The INFORMATION technology Program

Electricity and Electronics

How electricity and electronics work, learning the proper usage of tools and safety, soldering, component removal and identification, and microcontrollers.

Security Technician

Security concepts, tools and procedures to react to security incidents, general knowledge of security concepts, threats, and tools.

PC Technician Skills

Learning the “nuts and bolts” of computers such as: taking PCs apart, installing operating systems, upgrading, and diagnosing and repairing computers.

Network Technician

How to install networking hardware, configure a small office/home office (SOHO) network, build a complete Intranet, and connect mobile and desktop devices to a network.

Cloud Technician

Learning basic cloud concepts such as migration, storage, virtual machines, Cloud Servers, DevOps and troubleshooting.

    About Your Information Technology Instructors

    JON BARTSCHI

     

    Jon Bartschi is a lifelong learner and enjoys making and building everything from PCs to 3D printers. He joined the Dixie Tech faculty in 2017.

    Ken Richmond

     

    Ken Richmond is a self-proclaimed Technology Geek. After earning an Associate’s Degree and working
    with all types of electronics with his father, and in the Cable TV industry, he moved on to
    telecommunications, networking, and support for 25 years at Dixie State University, the last 5 as a
    mentor to the student run Support Services./
    Working with students has always been his favorite.
    Teaching at Dixie Tech has been a fulfilling progression to his career. He and his wife Deanna have a
    combined family of 12 children and 19 grandchildren and enjoy all kinds of activities with them.

    LEE DEVINE

     

    Lee Devine has an associate’s degree in operations management, a certificate from Dixie Tech in manufacturing principles, and his CompTIA A+, Network+, and Security+ certifications. He worked in the industry as an IT manager for a few years, and in 2010, he joined the staff at Dixie Tech as an admin for OpX. But he soon made the switch back to IT in 2012 as an IT Technician for the college.

    In 2015 he followed his dream of becoming a teacher and joined the faculty at Dixie Tech as an IT instructor. “What I love the most about teaching is seeing the ‘look of understanding’ hit a student’s face.. that moment when a subject they have been struggling with finally becomes understandable. I love the idea that I am helping someone achieve their dreams and goals.”

    Marshall Schmutz

     

    Marshall was born and raised in St. George, Utah, the oldest of five children. After competing nationally in the SkillsUSA competition with Dixie Tech while in high school, he’s thrilled to be able to work at Dixie Tech and give back. He attends Utah Tech where he’s studying software engineering after changing majors five times. When he’s not writing code you can find him creating digital art, practicing his tatting, or reading.
