Get on the road fast with Dixie Technical College’s Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B training program designed for those looking to drive straight trucks, school buses, dump trucks, concrete mixers, shuttle buses, and more. Through a mix of hands-on driving instruction and classroom based learning, students gain the operational skills, safety practices, and regulatory knowledge needed to pass the Utah State CDL-B Exam and begin a career in commercial driving.

The Commercial Driver’s License Class B program prepares students with the skills and knowledge they need to join the professional driving industry. This course fulfills the Federal Entry Level Driver Training requirements found in Pt 380 of the Federal Code of Federal Regulations.
Attendance Standard: This program has a minimum attendance standard of 80%.
Learning Objectives
- Demonstrate Basic Truck operation procedures and skills.
- Demonstrate safe operating procedures.
- Learn and Practice defensive driving techniques.
- Drive and control a class B truck on local, city, county, and interstate highways and roads.
- Practice vehicle inspections (pre/post-trip, enroute).
- Practice safe backing techniques.
- Review Non-driving activities (HOS, Cargo securement).

Education Verification
Provide a copy of one of the following: High School Diploma, High School Transcript showing graduation date, GED, Associate’s Degree, or Bachelor’s Degree. If an applicant does not have one of the above they can provide a copy of their CDL learner’s permit to satisfy the education verification requirement.
CDL Learner's Permit

Cody Christensen
Cody enjoys camping and tinkering with gadgets. With a diverse background in farming, construction, mechanics, trucking, and education he’s prepared to help students become experienced truck drivers. Cody says, “driving truck is a fun, meaningful, and lucrative career.”

Heber Holm
Heber Holm studied at BYU and Dixie College. He owned a construction company for 25 years before becoming co-owner of HD Trucking, where he served as superintendent. Heber also worked as a field manager for Trade Star LLC, providing oil field trucking and logistics. He joined Dixie Tech in 2019.

Steve Hansen
With a lifetime of experience operating machinery and 40 years of commercial driving, Steve brings real-world skills to Dixie Tech’s hands-on CDL program. His passion is welcoming new drivers and using Dixie Tech’s trucks as interactive classrooms to tailor education to professional CDL goals.
