Program Overview

Learn more about our Commercial Driver’s License program

The Commercial Driver’s License program offers comprehensive professional driver training, encompassing both classroom and in-vehicle instruction. Through this program, students develop a diverse set of driver competencies, ultimately becoming proficient, secure, and law-abiding drivers. Upon completion, students will be equipped to successfully pass the Utah State Driving Exam for the Class A Truck/Trailer license.

 As a student of this program, you will:

    • Master proper hook-up and unhooking.
    • Learn about vehicle control systems.
    • Understand double-clutching and floating gears.
    • Learn backing techniques.
    • Gain confidence driving on public roads.

Attainable Certificates include:

    • Accredited Dixie Technical College Certificate
    • Commercial Driver’s License

This program prepares you for CAREERS such as:

  • Truck Driver – Median Income $50k year, with top earners at $75k year.*

Commercial Driver’s license 

Upon completing the program, students acquire a spectrum of driving skills, transforming into secure, poised, and law-abiding drivers. They will be fully prepared to successfully undertake the Utah State Driving Exam for the Class A Truck/Trailer license.

Priority registration/enrollment will be granted to students who have attained a learner’s permit before enrolling, a permit is required in order to complete the program.

Provide a copy of one of the following: High School Diploma, High School Transcript showing graduation date, GED, Associate’s Degree, or Bachelor’s Degree.

$0 for in-state applicants and $10 for out-of-state applicants.

After successfully completing and submitting the above requirements, the College will perform an application review. Students will be emailed regarding their acceptance status.

Our industry-leading instructors, equipped with years of experience and knowledge, are prepared to mentor and guide the next generation of Truck Drivers. 

Cody Christensen

Cody enjoys camping with his family and tinkering with gadgets. With a diverse background in farming, construction, mechanics, trucking, and education he’s prepared to help students become experienced truck drivers. Cody says, “driving truck is a fun, meaningful, and lucrative career.”

Heber Holm

Heber Holm studied at BYU and Dixie College. He owned a construction company for 25 years before becoming co-owner of HD Trucking. Heber also worked as a field manager for Trade Star LLC, providing oil field trucking and logistics with over 40 trucks. He then joined Dixie Tech in 2019.

Steve Hansen

With a lifetime of experience operating machinery and 40 years of commercial driving, Steve brings real-world skills to Dixie Tech’s hands-on CDL program. His passion is welcoming new drivers and using Dixie Tech’s trucks as interactive classrooms to tailor education to professional CDL goals.
