Get under the hood and power your career forward in the Diesel Technology program at Dixie Tech. Designed for students who enjoy working with their hands and solving complex mechanical problems, this program offers a dynamic combination of classroom instruction and hands-on training in diesel engine repair, hydraulics, electronics, drivetrains, steering and suspension, brakes and HVAC.
With modern equipment, expert instructors, and curriculum aligned with ASE certification standards, students graduate prepared for in-demand jobs in diesel mechanics and maintenance.
As a student of this program, you will:
- Remove, service, and rebuild diesel engines
- Understand drivetrain components and how to troubleshoot them
- Diagnose and repair hydraulic systems used in heavy machinery
- Master HVAC systems and troubleshooting
- Learn suspension, steering, and braking system repairs

Diesel Technology
Program Description
The Diesel Technology program prepares students with the diversified employment skills and knowledge as diesel technicians, including hands-on instruction in diesel engines; electrical/electronic systems; steering and suspension; brakes; drivetrain; heating, ventilation, and air conditioning; hydraulics; preventative maintenance; safety; professionalism; and workplace relations.
Attendance Standard: This program has a minimum attendance standard of 80%.
Learning Objectives
- Demonstrate safe working habits and practices.
- Demonstrate knowledge related to the service, maintenance, operation, and function of the core systems related to diesel powered equipment.
- Build and maintain good working relationships.

Tuition & Fees must be paid before registering for class unless a payment plan or other funding options have been approved and signed. Information is subject to change without notice.
Tuition is waived for High-School students, however they are still responsible for course fees and additional costs.

Brandon Tucker
Brandon earned certification through the Diesel Systems technology program at Salt Lake Community College and went on to work as a service manager at Ahern Rentals. While there, he gained expertise in a wide range of engines, including Kubota’s construction and small agriculture equipment. He also worked as regional technical support for Kubota.
Joshua Jones
Joshua graduated with an Associates degree in Automotive Mechanics in 2014. He has worked in private fleets and local dealerships, gaining experience in both auto and diesel mechanics. He is eager to contribute to the education and growth of the next generation of technicians.
